. . . Arthur Stark, Chairman, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:
“The international community must raise its voice against Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s ongoing indiscriminate rocket attacks on Israeli population centers. Hamas as the governing authority in Gaza should be held responsible for the assaults launched from its territory regardless of the source.
It is imperative for Israel’s security that its forces root out those who fire rockets at Israeli civilians and send innocent people, including schoolchildren, running for cover. We express our solidarity with the communities under fire in southern Israel and pray for the wellbeing and recuperation of those wounded.
This continuing barrage is further proof of the international community’s need to address the actions of terrorist entities including Hamas and Hezbollah, which are Iranian proxies. Since taking over the Gaza Strip following Israel’s withdrawal in 2005, Hamas has brought misery to the Palestinians in Gaza, brutally oppressing any opposition or free press.
The silence of the international community about the gross violations of international law and human rights by Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and Iran is deafening. In fact, in recent days the Human Rights Council praised Iran’s behavior and expressed only muted concern over their gross violations. These rogue actors seek to sow chaos in the region no matter the cost to the people under their control, or other loss of human life, thereby denying a normal life to their citizens. It is time for the world to hold these purveyors of terror accountable.”
