COP Statement on the Assault and Robbery of Rabbi Natik in Kenya

Arthur Stark, Chairman and Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations issued the following statement:

We condemn the violent attack on Rabbi Shmuel Notik and his wife Chaya and the robbery in their home and synagogue. The physical and emotional scars of such a brutal home invasion eclipse the financial loss which runs into the tens of thousands of dollars. We pray for a speedy recovery to the family that showed us such hospitality during the Conference of Presidents’ mission to Kenya. The Notik family have made it possible for countless people visiting Kenya to have kosher food and facilities.

We call upon the Kenyan officials to quickly apprehend those responsible. We will join others in providing assistance for them to rebuild so that they can continue to provide their unique and valuable service both to the Jews in Kenya and to the many who visit there.
