CONFERENCE OF PRESIDENTS MOURNS LOSS OF COMEDIENNE, JOAN RIVERS

Conference of Presidents leaders, Robert G. Sugarman, Chairman, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice Chairman, expressed their condolences to the family and friends of comedienne, Joan Rivers, 81, who passed away yesterday after being hospitalized last week when she went into cardiac arrest. “Joan Rivers’ decades-long career as a talented performer, comic and media personality brought laughter to countless people in the US and abroad. Her unique style and humor will certainly be missed.  An outspoken Jew, she participated in many Jewish events but, of particular note were her most recent, outspoken pro-Israel comments during this summer’s conflict. Rivers was proud of her connection with Israel and its allies, mentioning her first-hand experience during travels to the country. She stood defiant as she bravely targeted and even named Israel’s detractors in the media. We hope others will be inspired by her to stand up for Israel and the truth. We express our sincere condolences to her family, friends and fans,” said Sugarman and Hoenlein.
