New York, NY . . . In a letter to the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, Francis Kallifat, President of the Conseil Représentatif des Institutions Juives de France (CRIF), conveyed the strong support and solidarity of the French Jewish community with American Jews in the aftermath of events in Charlottesville.
This message, in a letter addressed to Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Conference of Presidents, from our colleagues, and brothers and sisters, in the French Jewish community shows the close bond between the two largest Jewish diaspora communities and reinforces the strength of our shared concern for the well-being of Jews everywhere. At this difficult time, the expression of concern, the pledge of support, and the commitment to unity from the Jews of France are deeply appreciated.
In the letter, Mr. Kallifat referring to the long and close relationship between CRIF and the Conference of Presidents, wrote, “We have seen a resurgence of anti-Semitism all over the world over the past few years, especially in France and in Europe. In face of such evil, you have always shown concern and solidarity. It is now my turn to reciprocate. As always, we will stand together as one People with one Heart.”
Commenting on Mr. Kallifat’s letter, Stephen M. Greenberg, Chairman and Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Conference, said, “We greatly appreciate this expression of solidarity, as we have often done when the French Jewish community faced challenges. Increasingly, the dangers we face are global, even if they are expressed in different languages.
Bigotry, racism, anti-Semitism and hate in whatever form it arises is a cancer that metastasizes across all borders. We must take a common stand against these threats wherever they arise.”
