New York, NY . . . Stephen M. Greenberg, Chairman and Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO issued the following statement in response to the recent disclosure of details concerning Israeli humanitarian aid to victims of the war in Syria:
“The immense scope of humanitarian assistance Israel is providing to Syrian civilian victims of the war raging among Assad’s military aided by Iran and Hezbollah, Islamist extremists and forces opposed to the brutal Assad regime, is extraordinary.
We applaud the Israeli government for its compassionate response to the pain and anguish of the Syrian people. We proudly commend the bravery and heroism of the young Israeli soldiers and medical personnel who daily risk their own lives to save innocent children and adults, and we honor the many volunteers who assist in providing clothing, food and medicine to displaced and injured Syrians in desperate need.
Mr. Hoenlein, who has visited the border area where humanitarian operations are conducted, said, ‘I have witnessed the courageous young Israelis working under the most difficult and dangerous circumstances to save Syrian lives. While much of the world, including many countries that constantly criticize Israel, has been indifferent to the plight of the Syrian people, the Israeli soldiers and volunteers have told me it is their obligation as fellow human beings to do what they can to ease the suffering and save the lives of the people they are able to help.’
Now that the world knows the measures Israel is taking, we call on leaders in the international community to support Israel’s efforts to ease the plight of Syria’s innocent victims.”
