New York, NY . . . Stephen M. Greenberg, Chairman and Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO released the following statement on the 23rd commemoration of the July 18, 1994 terror attack on the Jewish community’s AMIA-DAIA building in Buenos Aires which killed 85 people and injured hundreds of others.
“In a letter today to the leaders of Argentina’s Jewish community we once again expressed our solidarity with Argentina’s Jewish community on the 23rd commemoration of the July 18, 1994 terrorist attack on the AMIA-DAIA building in which 85 innocent victims lost their lives and hundreds of others were injured. We also paid tribute to Alberto Nisman, the prosecutor whose life was taken in the valiant pursuit of justice for the victims of the wanton act of terror against the Jewish community and the people of Argentina.
As we have for the past 22 years, we join with the AMIA, DAIA, the entire Jewish community of Argentina and many other around the world in supporting efforts by the government of Argentina and the international community to bring to justice the perpetrators and those who collaborated with them in carrying out the heinous attack twenty-three years ago.
Last September, in our first meeting with Argentina’s President Mauricio Macri we raised with him our concerns about the AMIA-DAIA bombing investigation and President Macri assured us of his commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
We also wrote today to President Macri reiterating that the Conference of Presidents will continue to raise the issue at the highest levels with the U.S. government and international leaders affirming our support for Argentina’s determination to seek and achieve justice for the victims and their families under Argentina’s laws.”
