NEW YORK, NY…Stephen M. Greenberg, Chairman and Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice Chairman & CEO of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations issued the following statement:
“We expressed our concern about the decision yesterday to cancel an appearance by Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely’s at the Center for Jewish Life at Princeton.
We welcome the statement today by Hillel International President, Eric Fingerhut, and Rabbi Julie Roth, Executive Director of the Center for Jewish Life at Princeton, apologizing to Deputy Foreign Minister, Tzipi Hotovely, for the mistake made in cancelling her scheduled appearance at Princeton’s Center for Jewish Life. In their public declaration of they noted, ‘. . . we did not treat the Israeli deputy foreign minister with the respect her office deserves . . .’ and said the decision did not conform to Hillel’s ‘policy of engaging with Israel’s vibrant democracy, hearing from diverse voices from across the Israeli political spectrum and exposing students to different political perspectives.’
We note that the Chabad House on the Princeton campus provided a venue for the Deputy Foreign Minister to appear and present her views, as have Hillels at other colleges.”
