Conference of Presidents Condemns Ongoing Hamas Attacks Against Israelis

“We are outraged by the international indifference to the ongoing terrorism and attacks against Israel by Hamas in Gaza. Overnight, seven rockets aimed at innocent Israeli civilians were launched with murderous intent. Six were intercepted, but sadly one was a direct hit on a private home. Rocket fire has continued today, and more rockets are currently raining down on Israelis. As we enter Shabbat in America, we are mindful of the thousands of Israeli families who are spending the night in bomb shelters.

. . . Arthur Stark, Chairman, William Daroff, CEO, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Vice Chair of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:

“We are outraged by the international indifference to the ongoing terrorism and attacks against Israel by Hamas in Gaza. Overnight, seven rockets aimed at innocent Israeli civilians were launched with murderous intent. Six were intercepted, but sadly one was a direct hit on a private home. Rocket fire has continued today, and more rockets are currently raining down on Israelis. As we enter Shabbat in America, we are mindful of the thousands of Israeli families who are spending the night in bomb shelters.

All of this is in addition to Hamas’ countless balloons with incendiary devices that endanger Israeli lives and burn their homes, forests, and kindergartens on a regular basis. Rather than condemn Hamas for attacking civilians yet again, much of the international community routinely excuses, condones, or even supports the terrorist group and its murderous conduct. Israel voluntarily withdrew from Gaza in 2005, and it is now governed by a Palestinian terror group that is relentless its pursuit of Israel’s destruction.

No sovereign nation would let these repeated assaults go unanswered, but when Israel defends itself and its people, it is cast as the aggressor. There should not be a different standard for the Jewish State than there is for every other country in the world. Hamas must be held accountable for its atrocities by the international community, and Israel’s right to defend itself must be respected by all.”
