Conference of Presidents Commemorates 25th Anniversary of Rabin Assassination

. . . Arthur Stark, Chairman, William Daroff, CEO, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Vice Chair of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:

“We honor the life and memory of global statesman, soldier for Israel, and Nobel laureate Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, as the world observes the 25th anniversary of his assassination. As the first native-born Israeli prime minister of the Jewish State, Rabin was a transitional figure who dedicated his life to the establishment of the State of Israel and the cause of Zionism.

A quarter century after his life was tragically cut short, in death he has become a symbol of the hope for true and lasting peace in the Middle East. He would surely be encouraged by the immense progress made in recent months toward peace and reconciliation between Israel and her former foes. As Prime Minister Rabin said at the White House after signing the first Oslo Accords, ‘Let us pray that a day will come when we all will say: Farewell to the arms.’ May we see his fervent prayers answered in our time.”
