. . . Arthur Stark, Chairman, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:
“We thank New York Governor Andrew Cuomo for proposing $25 million in additional funding for security enhancements to protect organizations that are vulnerable to hate crimes and applaud his leadership in expanding this funding to include houses of worship. These funds would build on the $45 million in security grants that is already available through New York’s Securing Communities Against Hate Crimes Grant Program. This is part of a larger program including educational initiatives and the legislation to brand hate crimes as domestic terrorism. The Governor’s commitment to this was demonstrated by his trip earlier this week to Auschwitz to participate in the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the death camp.
With the disturbing rise in Jew-hatred we have witnessed to New York and across the country, this funding has never been more necessary to ensure the safety of our institutions. We thank the Governor for once again taking the lead in fighting for the security of Jewish and all communities in New York.”
