. . . Dianne Lob, Chair, William Daroff, CEO, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Vice Chair of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:
“The Conference of Presidents wishes you a Happy Hanukkah! Last year, many of us celebrated in solemn isolation from our loved ones, virtually over video, or impersonally masked and spaced apart. The ongoing coronavirus pandemic and events of the past year reinforce our obligation to repair the world through tikkun olam. We are delighted that the modern miracle of vaccines allows so many of us to again gather without fear and emerge from the darkness. However, we realize there is still work to be done on the long road to recovery.
“The coronavirus pandemic has impacted our ability to assemble freely with family and friends, at a time when antisemitism menaces Jewish communities in America and abroad. The Conference will continue to work on the issues that matter most to our communities, from advocating on behalf of Israel, to obtaining resources to secure our communal institutions, to educating about the Holocaust and combatting the scourge of Jew hatred. We pray that the lights of freedom, kindness, dignity, and peace will displace the forces of hatred and antisemitism that threaten our society. Let us join family and friends and recommit to the work before us, while lighting our candles and frying crispy latkes together again!”
