. . . Arthur Stark, Chair, William Daroff, CEO, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Vice Chair of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:
“We applaud the letter signed by a bipartisan supermajority of the US House of Representatives urging the extension of the UN arms embargo on Iran that is set to expire in October. This letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who himself has been a strong proponent of taking this important step, expresses unequivocally the need for the arms embargo to thwart Iran’s hegemonic aspirations. It has been signed by 387 members of the House of Representatives.
It is critically important for the security of US forces and interests in the region, as well as those of our allies including Israel, that Iran is not given the opportunity to amass additional weapons that they will then provide to their terrorist networks.
We call on the international community to join in urging the UN Security Council to extend the embargo on arms sales to Iran ahead of the embargo’s expiration this fall.”
