Jewish Leaders’ Statement on Disruption of Tisha B’Av Prayers

. . . Dianne Lob, Chair, William Daroff, CEO, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Vice Chair of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:

“We are deeply concerned by the disruption of Tisha B’Av prayer services at the Kotel by extremist agitators.

The Talmud tells us that in the days leading up to the destruction of the Second Temple, the Jewish people were divided into rival factions, and because of this lack of unity, the Second Temple was lost. Internal division has been the downfall of our people many times over the millennia; when we show disunity and baseless hatred, it weakens us as a people and encourages our opponents.

The Kotel is our collective holy space. We must remember the great importance of standing together as Jews in the face of this desecration.”
