Jewish Leaders Condemn Recent Antisemitic Rhetoric

. . . Dianne Lob, Chair, William Daroff, CEO, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Vice Chair of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:

“We are deeply concerned by the antisemitic nature of recent comments and allegations made by Representative Rashida Tlaib (MI-13) while addressing the Democratic Socialists of America’s national convention.

In comments linking the situation in Gaza to unrelated conditions in Detroit, she described a shadowy force acting behind the curtains in both places and around the world, controlling a system which is ‘designed by those who exploit the rest of us, for their own profit.’ Through her pointing to the tensions between Israel and Gaza, and saying that ‘they do it from Gaza to Detroit,’ it is clear that Rep. Tlaib is suggesting that the Jews are the uniting factor.

This comes days after Ohio’s 11th Congressional District Democratic primary, where failed congressional candidate Nina Turner blamed her recent special election loss on ‘evil money’ turning out voters in heavily Jewish areas in clear reference to the support her opponent, Shontel Brown, received from the pro-Israel community.

We condemn these harmful, inflammatory remarks and urge those who are influential in every field to join in holding those who traffic in antisemitism accountable.”
