Jewish Leaders Commend Biden Administration Sanctions on Iranian Weapons Programs

New York, NY – Dianne Lob, Chair, William Daroff, CEO, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Vice Chair, of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:

“We strongly commend the Biden Administration’s sanctioning of a network of Iran-based companies responsible for procuring ballistic missile materials for the military wing of their extremist regime.

“These sanctions come at a critical moment, as Iran continues to wreak havoc in the Middle East and around the world through its own forces and through proxies, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Research (IRGC) and Self Sufficiency Jihad Organization, responsible for the missile strike against Erbil, Iraq on March 13th that targeted the U.S. Consulate there and the Iranian-enabled Houthi missile attack against a Saudi Aramco facility on March 25th, as well as other recent attacks by Iranian agents against Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

“Iran has repeatedly violated international law and abused international commitments for decades to further its military ambitions and hegemonic goals. The international community must not soon forget that Iran is responsible for the deaths of countless innocent people, and regularly calls for ‘Death to America’ and ‘Death to Israel.’

“In addition to the sanctions on missile programs, we call for stronger scrutiny of Iran’s banking and energy sectors – and on other nefarious and deadly activities of the IRGC, as the threat posed by the extremist regime to American interests, Israel, the Middle East, and the world at large, mandates a comprehensive approach. The United States must stay vigilant to prevent even more deadly attacks against the international community.”
