. . . Dianne Lob, Chair, William Daroff, CEO, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Vice Chair of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:
“We regret that hours after a ceasefire was negotiated that stopped Hamas’ brutal rocket assault against Israel, Palestinian agitators instigated violence on the Temple Mount during Friday prayers. This comes after Israeli civilians endured a sustained eleven day siege from terrorists in Gaza.
These provocations are intolerable and must stop immediately. Blaming Israeli police as a pretext for escalation is wrong, as they act with great restraint in facilitating freedom of worship for Muslims on the Temple Mount. Those who attack them must be identified and prosecuted for the safety of all.
We call on Palestinian leadership to contribute to keeping the peace by acting against those who are fomenting continued unrest and promulgating false accusations to incite violence. We are hopeful that the fragile truce will hold along Israel’s borders and also within them.”
