Conference of Presidents Welcomes Signing of Anti-BDS Legislation in North Dakota

New York, NY – Dianne Lob, Chair, and William Daroff, CEO, of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:

“The Conference of Presidents commends the North Dakota legislature and Governor Doug Burgum for becoming the 35th state to prohibit state contracts with entities engaged in the bigoted Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement.

“The nearly unanimous passage of the legislation by the state’s legislature and the Governor’s support demonstrate North Dakota’s firm commitment to Israel, as the goal of the BDS Movement is to end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state. The BDS Movement and its organizers do not seek peace in the Middle East, but rather to destroy Israel and the promise of the Jewish homeland through targeted economic warfare.

“Any government or organization engaged with BDS or pursing similar actions must recognize the grave legal and reputational complications associated with anti-Israel activities, particularly at a time when antisemitism is on the rise globally. We urge such entities to reconsider their stance and to uphold values of fairness and justice in commercial dealings.”
