Conference of Presidents Mourns Passing of Former Vice President Walter Mondale

. . . Dianne Lob, Chair, William Daroff, CEO, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Vice Chair of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Former Vice President Walter Mondale, a statesman of the highest order who dedicated his life to public service as a senator, vice president, and ambassador.

The Former Vice President was a great American, a steadfast supporter of the State of Israel, and a friend of the Jewish people with whom the Conference had a very warm relationship. A strong advocate of civil and human rights, he was a close ally of the Soviet Jewry movement. He also played a key role in the Camp David Accords, beginning the movement towards normalization of relations between Israel and her neighbors.

The thoughts and prayers of the American Jewish community are with his family. May his memory be for a blessing.”
