Conference of Presidents Mounts Vigorous Response to Outrageous ICC Decision

. . . Arthur Stark, Chairman, William Daroff, CEO, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Vice Chair of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:

“In response to the dangerous and outrageous International Criminal Court (ICC) decision that ignores established principles of international law and the ICC’s own founding statute by claiming jurisdiction over ineligible charges brought by the Palestinian Authority, an interim governing body that is not a sovereign state, the Conference of Presidents is taking concerted action on multiple fronts to stand up for the Jewish State and push back against the ICC’s demonstrated anti-Israel agenda.

Conference leadership and member organizations are communicating with the delegations of every United Nations member state in New York to advocate against the ICC’s politically motivated violation, writing to UN Secretary-General António Guterres urging him to publicly oppose it, and expressing intense opposition directly to the ICC itself. The Conference’s UN Committee will follow up to hold bilateral meetings with key UN delegations.

Not only does this inflammatory action by the ICC needlessly obstruct the path to peace between Israel and the Palestinians, it also sets an ominous precedent that threatens the United States and other countries that could be the next to find themselves in the ICC’s arbitrary crosshairs. The only viable and lasting resolution to the conflict is through direct negotiations between the parties. We call on the international community to protest this blatant attempt to single out Israel for unfair treatment.”
