Conference of Presidents Leaders Express Condolences to Egyptian People in Aftermath of Terror Bombing of Two Coptic Churches on Palm Sunday

New York, NY . . . Leaders of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations expressed condolences to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the families of those whose lives were taken, and the entire people of Egypt following the terror attack on Coptic Christian worshippers attending Palm Sunday services yesterday at St. George’s Church in Tanta and Saint Mark’s Orthodox Cathedral in Alexandria.

Stephen M. Greenberg, Chairman and Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO said, “The deliberate targeting by Islamic State terrorists of innocent civilians observing their faith in religious devotion and prayer is a reprehensible act of violence, not just against Egypt’s vital Coptic community, but all Egyptians.

We commend President el-Sisi’s strong commitment to protecting the safety of Egypt’s Coptic communities and his leadership in the effort to root out Islamic extremist terrorism in your country and throughout the region.

In these difficult times, as the Egyptian government continues to work toward security and stability for Egypt and the region, we reaffirm our ongoing support for President el-Sisi’s efforts, and express our continuing solidarity with the government and people of Egypt.”
