Conference of Presidents Congratulates Australia on Decision to Endorse IHRA Definition

. . . Dianne Lob, Chair, William Daroff, CEO, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Vice Chair of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:

“We applaud the announcement by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison that the government of Australia will endorse the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism. Upon taking this important step, Australia will become the 33rd country to do so.

The endorsement or adoption of the definition by such a broad coalition of governments, NGOs, universities, and other entities reflects the widespread support it has as the most authoritative and internationally accepted definition of antisemitism. In order for antisemitism to be effectively confronted, it is essential that it be defined.

We thank the Australian government for its support of the Jewish people and the State of Israel, and we strongly encourage others to follow in endorsing or adopting the full definition as a key instrument in the global fight against antisemitism in all its forms.”
