. . . Arthur Stark, Chairman, William Daroff, CEO, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Vice Chair of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:
“We applaud the U.S. House of Representatives Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security for approving $360 million in funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program, quadrupling the appropriation made last year. Since September 11th, nonprofits generally, and Jewish communal institutions specifically, have been the victim of an alarming number of threats and attacks. With the increase in antisemitism and Jew-hatred, these grants are more necessary than ever before to provide critical resources to take protective measures to enhance security.
We thank Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle who supported this initiative, particularly House Appropriations Committee Chair Nita Lowey (D-NY), Homeland Security Subcommittee Chair Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA), and Representative Peter King (R-NY) for leading this effort to protect our communities.
We look forward to the full House Appropriations Committee approving this funding, and call upon the Senate Appropriations Committee to include it in their legislation.”
