New York, NY,…The Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations voted and confirmed current Conference of Presidents Chair Dianne Lob for a second one-year term beginning June 1, 2022.
Additionally, Harriet Schleifer, outgoing National President of the American Jewish Committee (AJC), was elected to serve as Chair-Elect, before becoming Conference Chair on June 1, 2023.
Dianne Lob, Conference of Presidents Chair stated: “I sincerely appreciate our members’ faith in my continued leadership as Chair. I am eager to continue to work with our members and partner organizations over the next year in supporting the safety and security of Israel and fighting the rise in antisemitism. We are stronger when we work together to achieve these goals. I would especially like to thank the members of the Nominating Committee for their hard work and diligence throughout the entire process.”
Harriet Schleifer, Conference of Presidents Chair-Elect stated: “I am honored and humbled to have been elected as Chair-elect of the Conference. As the President of the American Jewish Committee, I have seen close-up the importance and value of the Conference of Presidents’ work. As someone who has held leadership roles throughout the Jewish community, I have been inspired by the collective efforts of Conference member organizations and the collaborative work we are able to do together.”
Schleifer has an impressive history of leadership within AJC, having served as the Chairperson of AJC’s Board of Governors and Chairperson of Project Interchange, as well as other prestigious organizations and institutions. A member of the Conference of Presidents Executive Council since 2019, Schleifer also is a Trustee of Cornell University, and serves on the boards of The Washington Institute for Near East Policy, The Jewish Museum (New York), Jewish Broadcasting Service, and Plaza Jewish Community Chapel. In addition, she has held leadership positions with UJA-Federation of New York (Westchester area), Westchester Jewish Council, and served as President of Bet Torah Synagogue in Mt. Kisco.
A retired attorney whose focus was education law, Schleifer has extensive experience representing students with special needs. She serves on the Executive Committee of Chapel Haven Schleifer Center, Inc., a residential school and organization whose mission is to provide lifelong individualized services for people with developmental and social disabilities, empowering them to live independent and self-determined lives.
She has engaged with past and present leaders of Israel and members of the Knesset from across the political spectrum. She also has worked with members of Congress on both sides of the aisle.
