Leaders of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations welcomed the holding of a hearing tomorrow by the Subcommittee on the Constitution of the Senate Judiciary Committee to receive testimony on the bipartisan Holocaust Expropriated Art Recovery (HEAR) Act introduced by Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), Chairman of the Subcommittee and Senators Schumer (D-NY), Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Cruz (R-Texas).

Greenberg, Chairman and Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice Chairman & CEO of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations said “When the HEAR Act was introduced last April, we urged members of the Senate to support this much needed legislation that will remove procedural barriers to the recovery of art works looted by the Nazis.
We applaud Subcommittee Chairman Cornyn and Ranking Member Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Ill.) for scheduling this hearing to move the HEAR Act forward and for assembling an outstanding panel of experts on the restitution of Nazi looted artworks, including former Presidents Conference Chairman and current President of the World Jewish Congress, Amb. Ronald Lauder, who also serves as Chairman of the Commission for Art Recovery (CAR) dedicated to seeking justice for Holocaust victims of Nazi art theft and Mr. Simon Goodman who has devoted decades to recovering family artworks taken by the Nazis from his grandfather before he was killed by the Gestapo.”
The hearing tomorrow is another positive step toward passage of the HEAR Act and the ongoing commitment to end the injustices of the Holocaust.
