. . . Arthur Stark, Chairman, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:
“We strongly reject the call for creating an ‘Islamic army for Palestine,’ and condemn retired Turkish General Adnan Tanriverdi for making such an outrageous call.
In a series of comments threatening the Jewish State, Tanriverdi declared to an anti-Israel gathering in Istanbul that the Islamic world must marshal its forces into an army for Palestine. This rhetoric can incite violence against Israel and its citizens and add to tensions in the region.
Tanriverdi also falsely claimed that Israel governs 85 percent of Palestinian land and perpetuated lies and distortions of the facts on the ground. We call on President Erdogan to denounce these comments in the strongest possible terms and to publicly reject this call.”
