Conference of Presidents Leaders Condemn Hamas Continued Violence Along Gaza Border Fence With Israel

Statement Originally Issued On April 5th, 2018…New York, NY. . .In anticipation of the announced next rounds of violence tomorrow along the Israel Gaza border, Stephen M. Greenberg, Chairman and Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations issued the following statement:

“We condemn the terrorist organization Hamas in the strongest possible terms for planning, financing, organizing and carrying out these dangerous and outrageous events against Israel.

Terrorist operatives, mobilized by Hamas to challenge Israel’s sovereignty, are threatening the lives of thousands of Israeli civilians living near the border and the soldiers protecting them.  Hamas is again using their own people, including women and children, as cover while they seek to penetrate the border security fence, fire live ammunition at Israeli soldiers, plant bombs and throw rocks.

Hamas, as they have stated, is clearly seeking to provoke a military response while Israel has exercised great restraint.  No nation would tolerate such a threat and not act to protect its citizens and sovereignty.

We are disturbed by some of the media coverage which misrepresents the realities on the ground and appears to be falling for the inhumane and despicable Hamas tactics.  If Hamas was concerned about the people of Gaza the money they are spending on these provocations events would be spent on the real needs of the people of Gaza.”
