Conference of Presidents Leaders Strongly Protest Latest Pro-BDS Report By UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

New York, NY . . .  Stephen M. Greenberg, Chairman and Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations strongly protested the latest report issued by United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, which perverts human rights principles and promotes the illegitimate anti-Israel agenda of the global BDS movement. and an immoral majority of the Human Rights Council.  The blatantly discriminatory UN Human Rights Council “blacklist” was compiled pursuant to a resolution adopted by the Council in March 2016.

The leaders called on Congress to quickly pass the Israel Anti-Boycott Act, which has been introduced with bipartisan majorities cosponsoring the bill in both Houses.

Mr. Greenberg and Mr. Hoenlein said, “The latest report on the biased, pre-determined, BDS driven investigation by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to create a ‘blacklist’ of firms doing business in or with Israeli businesses in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, continues to pervert human rights principles and to serve the distorted and illegitimate anti-Israel agenda of the global BDS movement and the automatic majority of the misnamed Human Rights Council.  By calling for the allocation of more resources for the ‘blacklist’ project, the High Commissioner is willingly abetting the escalation of unfair, unbalanced and unjust anti-Israel bias in the Human Rights Council and the U.N.

We commend Ambassador Nikki Haley for her denunciation of the High Commissioner’s report and clear expression of U.S. condemnation of the ‘blacklist’ project and the prevailing anti-Israel bias, which sets back the cause of human rights, undermines the credibility and effectiveness of the Human Rights Council and weakens the prospects for peace.”
