Conference of Presidents Welcomes Israel-Lebanon Framework to Strengthen Israeli Security and Lebanese Sovereignty

New York, NY — Betsy Berns Korn, Chair, and William C. Daroff, CEO of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:

“The Conference of Presidents welcomes the Israel-Lebanon Framework Agreement brokered by the United States. If fully implemented, this agreement has the potential to strengthen Israel’s security, restore Lebanon’s sovereignty, and advance the prospect of lasting peace between Israel and Lebanon.

For decades, Hezbollah, Iran’s terrorist proxy, has waged war against Israel while undermining Lebanon’s independence and denying the Lebanese people the peaceful and prosperous future they deserve. Lasting peace requires one sovereign Lebanese government, one military, and the complete and verified disarmament of Hezbollah and all other non-state armed groups.

We commend President Donald J. Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for their leadership, and applaud Israeli Ambassador Yechiel Leiter and Lebanese Ambassador Nada Hamadeh Moawad for their perseverance and statesmanship throughout these negotiations. Their work, together with that of the American, Israeli, and Lebanese negotiating teams, made this important breakthrough possible. We also recognize the sacrifices of the Israel Defense Forces, whose success against Hezbollah helped create the conditions for this agreement.

The true measure of this framework will be its implementation. The international community must ensure that Hezbollah is dismantled, Lebanon exercises full sovereign authority throughout its territory, and Iran is prevented from reestablishing its terrorist infrastructure. Achieving these objectives will strengthen regional security and help build a more peaceful future for the people of Israel and Lebanon.”
