Jewish Leaders Support Bipartisan Push for Federal Inquiry into Dangerous, Antisemitic “Mapping Project”

New York, NY – Dianne Lob, Chair, William Daroff, CEO, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Vice Chair, of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:

“The Conference of Presidents strongly supports the letter from 37 bipartisan Members of Congress led by Reps. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) and Don Bacon (R-NE) calling for a federal inquiry into the dissemination of the Mapping Project, created by anonymous supporters of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) Movement, as part of an effort to track, target, intimidate and deliberately do harm to the Boston Jewish community. The map reinforces dangerous antisemitic tropes historically used as the basis for violence against Jews, particularly egregious as antisemitic incidents reach record levels across the country.

“We are concerned by the potential use of this BDS Movement-inspired hate map by extremist organizations targeting Jews and condemn its very creation. In addition, it is critical to provide access to immediate security resources for the organizations named in the project. We ask social media companies and internet service providers to take appropriate measures to prevent the map’s further distribution.

“We will never tolerate violence against our community or any other. We were heartened to see so many local and state lawmakers and Jewish and non-Jewish organizations alike speak out and condemn this threatening project. We are committed to the fight against antisemitism and we stand with Boston’s Jewish community during this uncertain time. We appreciate the engagement of Attorney General Merrick Garland, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, and FBI Director Christopher Wray and ask that they continue to use every available resource to address the map and its potential ramifications, including the creation of any similar maps or efforts to track Jews elsewhere in the country, which we will monitor closely.

“We are grateful to Reps. Gottheimer and Bacon and all the members of Congress who signed the letter: Jaime Herrera Beutler, Henry Cuellar, Brendan F Boyle, Ted Deutch, Shontel Brown, Brian Fitzpatrick, J. Luis Correa, Jared Golden, Jim Costa, Vicente Gonzalez, David Joyce, Brad Sherman, John Katko, Albio Sires, Carolyn B.
