Jewish Leaders Commend Tennessee Bill on Israel: Tennessee Becomes 34th State to Combat Anti-Israel Movement

New York, NY – Dianne Lob, Chair, William Daroff, CEO, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Vice Chair, of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:

“We applaud the Tennessee legislature and Governor Bill Lee for passing and signing the legislation prohibiting state contracts with companies engaged in the bigoted Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement.  Tennessee joins a majority of U.S. states that have taken this  critical step in the fight against antisemitism and discriminatory boycotts in the form of adopted laws, executive orders, and resolutions.

“The bill demonstrates Tennessee’s firm commitment to Israel, as the ultimate goal of the BDS Movement is to end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state. The BDS Movement does not seek peace in the Middle East, but rather wishes to destroy Israel and the promise of the Jewish homeland through economic warfare.

“We advise any corporations engaging with the BDS Movement or considering similar actions to take into account the reputational damage, as well as the legal complications, associated with anti-Israel activities, particularly at a time when acts of antisemitism are on the rise at home and abroad.”
