Jewish Leaders Support Bipartisan Senate Effort to End UN Human Rights Council’s Biased Commission of Inquiry

“We strongly support the bipartisan initiative in the US Senate urging the Biden administration and Secretary of State Antony Blinken to end the permanent and discriminatory UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC)’s Commission of Inquiry (COI) on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, following Israel’s response to Hamas terrorists firing 4,000 rockets at civilians last May.

“Israel is the only member state in the history of the UN that has been singled out for taking a defensive military action to protect its civilian population from existential threats. What’s more, the COI resolution makes no mention of the terrorist group Hamas, nor does it mention Israel’s right to defend itself in accordance with international law. With no clear mandate and unlimited funding, this COI is a one-sided unlimited assault on our democratic ally and demonstrates the alarming anti-Israel bias that has captured the UNHRC.

“We call on Secretary Blinken to prioritize the effort to end the unjust COI and demand increased scrutiny of anti-Israel activity by UN agencies and members.

“We are deeply grateful to the 68 Senators who signed the letter, and particularly commend its authors, Senators Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Rob Portman (R-OH), for their continuing leadership.”
