. . . Dianne Lob, Chair, William Daroff, CEO, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Vice Chair of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:
“We join the nation and the world in mourning the loss of General Colin Powell, who was a staunch supporter of the State of Israel throughout his decades-long career in public service. He had a long association with the Conference of Presidents. We met with him often when he was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, National Security Advisor, and Secretary of State.
After fighting in the Vietnam War, Powell went on to serve his country as National Security Advisor under President Ronald Reagan, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under President George H.W. Bush and President Bill Clinton, and Secretary of State under President George W. Bush. He was a true statesman, a larger than life figure who will be dearly missed.
Our thoughts and prayers and those of the American Jewish community are with the Powell family during this difficult time.”
