. . . Dianne Lob, Chair, William Daroff, CEO, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Vice Chair of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:
“The Conference of Presidents commends the National Education Association (NEA) for overwhelmingly voting down one anti-Israel resolution, and rejecting the consideration of another at their annual conference this week. We applaud the work of the NEA Jewish Affairs Caucus and the Jewish Labor Committee for leading the successful effort to defeat these resolutions.
We appreciate the efforts of many Jewish organizations that worked to galvanize NEA members to oppose the odious anti-Israel resolutions. The Jewish community has a long history with the American labor movement, and we are encouraged to see that a small group of union members was not able to stop the NEA’s commitment to academic freedom.
It is important to ensure that our educators and education system do not take actions that could fuel the recent rise in antisemitism in the United States. At a time when educators and public education are facing many challenges, we are encouraged to see opposition to resolutions that would have only served to fuel more needless division.”
