Conference of Presidents Praises Switzerland’s Adoption of IHRA Definition of Antisemitism

. . . Dianne Lob, Chair, William Daroff, CEO, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Vice Chair of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:

“We welcome the government of Switzerland’s adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism, making the Swiss Confederation the 36th country to do so.

Switzerland joins a growing list of nations, international bodies, major cities, and countless institutions around the world that have taken this important step. This global coalition, which continues to expand daily, reflects the broad support that exists for the most authoritative and internationally accepted definition of antisemitism. It is critically important to define antisemitism in order to combat it successfully. The IHRA definition clearly lays out the link between anti-Israel and antisemitic actions. This is increasingly essential to authorities in the wake of violent antisemitic attacks against Jewish citizens of Europe and across the United States in response to tensions in the Middle East.

We thank the government and people of Switzerland for their support of the Jewish people and the State of Israel, and we strongly encourage others to follow in adopting the definition as a key instrument in addressing the urgent threat of antisemitism.”
