. . . Arthur Stark, Chairman, William Daroff, CEO, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Vice Chair of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:
“It comes as no surprise that recent reports found the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) continues to foster the spread of antisemitism and incitement to violence against the Jewish State. Educational materials disseminated by UNRWA to Palestinian schools in December and January encourage violence, jihad, terrorism, and martyrdom, glorifying the sacrifice of one’s life to ‘defend the motherland’ and denying Israel’s legitimacy as a sovereign nation.
This comes after assurances from UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini that inappropriate content was removed from UNRWA textbooks. It is unacceptable for such harmful and incendiary propaganda targeting a UN member state to be disseminated by a UN organization, and this is only the latest example of systemic malfeasance by UNRWA.
UNRWA’s consistent misdeeds and failure to live up to it commitments must be addressed by the international community which is giving tacit support for incitement, violence, and Jew-hatred so long as it remains silent.”
