“We applaud the commitment by the government of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, demonstrating official recognition of Israel’s capital. This act of leadership represents the larger trend of growing ties between Israel and African nations, with the Republic of Sudan and the Kingdom of Morocco joining other countries on the continent in normalizing relations with the Jewish State in recent months.
Since 1949 Jerusalem has continuously been the seat of the Israeli government, and for nearly 3,500 years it has been the Jewish capital. It is home to the holiest sites in Judaism and will always be indelibly linked with the destiny of the Jewish people, while also being a symbol of inspiration, tolerance, and respect for all faiths.
We look forward to seeing this decision fully implemented in the coming days, and we strongly encourage other countries to join in recognizing Jerusalem as the rightful capital of Israel, the world’s one and only Jewish State.”
