Melvin Salberg served as Chairman of the Conference from June 1997 to May 1999.
A graduate of New York University, Mr. Salberg was senior council in the labor and employment law group of Anderson Kill’s New York City office. For more than 35 years he provided advice and council, and served as management’s principal spokesman and strategy advisory in union-management collective bargaining.
Mr. Salberg’s distinguished legal career was matched by his lifelong commitment to the Jewish community, Zionism, and Israel. His varied involvement included his leadership positions in the Anti-Defamation League, culminating in his election as National Chairman. In that role, which he held from 1990 to 1994, he led missions to Israel, the Soviet Union, and Germany, and participated in a meeting with Pope John Paul II that led to a Vatican declaration against antisemitism.
