Label Katz z”l
Label Katz served as Chairman of the Conference from May 1960 to October 1961.
Mr. Katz received a law degree but focused on housing rehabilitation and real estate investments as president of Label A. Katz Investment Co., Inc.
Beginning in 1959, he served two three-year terms as president of B’nai B’rith International with the distinction of being the youngest president in the history of the organization.
He was the first president of the National Conference on Soviet Jewry and fought for diplomatic intervention with the Soviet Union and other countries that restricted Jewish life, meeting with presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson, Popes John XXIII and Paul VI, Jawaharal Nehru of India, and others.
He was a chairman of the World Conference of Jewish Organizations, a national commissioner of the Anti-Defamation League, and occupied national leadership positions in the United Jewish Appeal, the Israel Bond Organization, the National Foundation for Jewish Culture, and the American Association for Jewish Education.
Label Katz passed away in 1975.
