Rabbi Irving Miller z”l
Rabbi Irving Miller served as Chairman of the Conference of Presidents from October 1961 to December 1963.
Born in Lithuania, Rabbi Miller was ordained at Rabbi Isaac Elhanan Theological Seminary in 1926. He was the spiritual leader of congregations in Long Island, Queens, Ohio, and Massachusetts.
He was a delegate to the founding conference of the World Jewish Conference in 1936 in Geneva; later, during World War II, he served as that organization’s secretary-general.
Following the death of Rabbi Stephen Wise in 1949, Rabbi Miller was elected chairman of the American Jewish Congress and held that role until 1952. He was also president of the Zionist Organization of America (1952-1954), chairman of the American Zionist Council (1954-1963), and a member of the national cabinet of the United Jewish Appeal as well and the World Zionist Organization Actions Committee.
Rabbi Miller passed away in 1980.
