Conference of Presidents Commends House Passage of Antisemitism Awareness Act

New York, NY… Harriet P. Schleifer, Chair, and William C. Daroff, CEO, of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:

“The Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations commends the U.S. House of Representatives for passing the Antisemitism Awareness Act (AAA) with overwhelming bipartisan support.

“In the wake of a surge of antisemitism on college campuses across America, this legislation will empower the Department of Education to protect Jewish students from discrimination under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.

“We urge the Senate to swiftly take up and pass the Antisemitism Awareness Act.

“Amidst increasingly difficult circumstances for the American Jewish community and all Americans, it is critical the Federal government take substantive action beyond words of sympathy. The United States has long prided itself as a safe haven for people of all faiths and creeds. Today, it has become increasingly unclear if our leaders are up to the task of upholding this tradition. The House passage of the Antisemitism Awareness Act demonstrates that great majorities in both parties are willing to take a stand against antisemitism and in favor of upholding the great principles upon which our country was founded.”
