CHAIRPERSON
Alan Solow
Chairman
Alan Solow currently serves as Chairperson of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations.  
 

Alan Solow also serves as chair of the Jewish Community Centers Association (JCCA). He joined the board of the Jewish Community Centers Association (JCCA) of North America in 1997 and was elected Chair in 2006. As Chair of the JCCA, Mr. Solow is responsible for activities throughout North America and in the JCCA Israel office.  He also plays a key role in coordinating the JCCA’s activities with the Israel Association of Community Centers. He is a Vice Chair of the World Confederation of Jewish Community Centers and a director for life of the Jewish Community Centers of Metropolitan Chicago. 

 

He served as chair of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Chicago from 2005-2007, having served previously as Chair of Government Affairs. During his tenure there, Mr. Solow regularly interacted with Israeli officials, including the Ambassador to the United States and the Consul General to the Midwest, as well as government leaders and officials during visits to Israel.

 

Mr. Solow has served in various leadership capacities in the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago and Jewish United Fund. He is a member of the board of directors of the United Jewish Communities and of CLAL, the National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership, and serves on the Public Policy Committee of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society. He also chairs the capital campaign for Sinai Health Systems in Chicago.

 

Mr. Solow is a practicing attorney and is a partner and Vice Chair of the Restructuring Group at DLA Piper LLP (US). His practice focuses on creditors’ rights and bankruptcy. He is a fellow in the American College of Bankruptcy and has been recognized as a leader in his profession in numerous ranking publications.

 

Mr. Solow is a long-time participant in Jewish relations with political leaders of both parties at the state and federal level. He received his A.B., summa cum laude, from the University of Illinois in 1976 and his J. D. cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1979.

 

Mr. Solow is a member of the Aitz Hayim Center for Jewish Living in Highland Park, Ill. He is married to Andrea Lavin Solow. Together they have three children and one grandchild.
